Site Safety Officer - Seattle, WA

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Some experience in the construction industry with a commercial or industrial general contractor

  • Experience in safety inspections and the implementation of safety plans

  • Good communication skills, positive “can-do” attitude, and a willingness to learn

  • Ability to instruct subcontractors in the details of the work they perform (by enforcement) to improve safety performance

  • Ability to train and mentor others in safety as required

  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines

  • Ability to facilitate company programs/policies as they relate to the safety of our work

  • Red Cross First Aid, Adult CPR and AED Certification or equivalent

  • OSHA 30 for the Construction Industry

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, to include clear, concise and professional presentation of information

  • Ability to work well in a team environment

 

Scope of Responsibility:

 

Primarily responsible for inspection and enforcement of the site Safety and Health Program. Ensure all the workers at the construction site are working in a safe environment and are following all correct safety procedures. Collaborate with contractors in locating sources of potential hazards on project sites, including toxic materials, potential electrocution, and structural threats to human life, and finding ways to reduce or completely eliminate such hazardous threat from the sites.

 

Position Duties:

 

  • Attend weekly (or more often as appropriate) site safety meeting(s) and document attendance.

  • Administer weekly toolbox meetings. Assist the subcontractor partners with required HSEQ safety documentation submissions

  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, corporate safety initiatives, and state, local and federal regulations

  • Maintain communications with (PSO) Project Safety Officer and project staff to ensure proper project safety compliance and report on safety violations and safety practices

  • Responsible for timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with Centennial policies and protocols

  • Assist with accident investigations, incident reports, take photographs, obtain necessary items on site, and maintain the appropriate records.  Assist in determining the actions required to eliminate the reoccurrence of a similar incident.

  • Assist the Project Safety Officer and Project Safety Manager with their onsite safety visits and inspections

  • Assist with follow up inspections for items identified by the Project Safety Manager requiring corrective action to ensure timely completion of action items

  • Must provide verification of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or present the basis for an accommodation upon hire, if not currently employed by Centennial. In some instances, government and client mandates may present alternative or additional terms.

  • Responsible for driving between project sites that are often miles apart or miles from the assigned office location.

 

  • Performance of the required job duties will be in an office environment along with visits to sites that are under construction which may include various weather conditions

  • The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • The ability to walk terrain and surfaces that may be far, uneven, or temporary

  • The ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, talk and hear

  • The ability to frequently use hands to finger, handle or feel

  • The ability to occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, squat, or reach

  • The ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
