The Role

The Safety Technician is responsible for monitoring and completing tasks in support of the safety program and safety culture on a large-scale chemical, new construction, or manufacturing facility.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in the construction industry, oil and gas or industrial preferred

• Experience in safety inspections and the implementation of safety plans is highly desired

• Ability to instruct subcontractors and employees on safe working procedures and policies

• Must demonstrate a strong ability to:

  • Assist in excavation, lifting and rigging, crane operations, demolition, confined space, working at height, steel erection, scaffolding and other construction processes

  • Adapt and be flexible to frequent changes in a fast-paced work environment

  • Demonstrate integrity consistent with Bilfinger Industrial Services’s core values

  • Collaborate and work effectively in a team environment with people of various backgrounds and styles

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, to include clear, concise, and professional presentation of information

  • Adapt to the constantly evolving world of technology, design, means and methods, systems may include but not limited to: Microsoft Office suite and other construction systems

• HSE relevant certifications highly desired

• Current OSHA 500/510/CHST/CSST are a plus

Responsibilities:

• Safety: Hold weekly “Toolbox Talk” meetings; Assist the Health Safety and Environmental (HSE) team with their onsite safety visits and inspections; Assist with follow up inspections requiring corrective action to ensure timely completion; Complete various safety documents and daily reports; Assist with accident investigations and determining the actions required to eliminate the reoccurrence of a similar incident; Assist subcontractor partners with required HSE documentation submissions; Conduct surveys of employee and subcontractor operations to ensure compliance with safety program, client regulations, OSHA, and State safety standards and regulations; Identify safety violations and alert management; Responsible for maintenance and tasks for the First Aid Department; Collaborate with contractors in locating sources of potential hazards on project sites, including toxic materials, potential electrocution, structural threats to safety, and finding ways to eliminate such hazardous threats from sites.

• Training & Safety Culture: Assist with training and educating employees and subcontractors on safety and job site security; promote the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees and subcontractors to adopt safety as a culture.

• Occasional travel may be required.

• Performance of the required job duties will be in a on project site-office envirnment along with daily project walks that are under construction which may include various weather conditions.

  • The ability to walk terrain and surfaces that may be far, uneven, or temporary

  • The ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, talk and hear

  • The ability to frequently use hands to finger, handle or feel

  • The ability to occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, squat, or reach

  • The ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • Will operate inspection hand gages of all types

  • Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds

  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis

  • Position may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, reaching overhead, squatting, sitting or standing and lifting

  • Ability to drive cars/trucks as needed

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
