Firewatch
Primary Purpose:
Responsible for monitoring work areas where hot work (welding, cutting, grinding) is being performed to prevent fires and ensure adherence to safety protocols. This position is critical in maintaining a safe working environment, particularly in industrial settings.
Typical Duties:
- Maintain continuous surveillance of hot work areas to detect and respond to potential fire hazards
- Ensure all combustible materials are removed or properly shielded prior to hot work
- Remain in the work area for a minimum of 30 minutes after the hor work ends to monitor for smoldering fires (as required by OSHA)
- Ensure that fire extinguishers and other firefighting equipment are accessible and operational
- Report unsafe conditions or violations of fire safety protocols to supervisors immediately
- Maintain a clear evacuation route and be prepared to activate emergency procedures if needed
- Keep accurate logs of fire watch activities and inspections
- Coordinate with welders, cutters, and site supervisors to understand the scope and hazards of the job
- Attend safety meetings and comply with all site-specific and OSHA safety regulations
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Workers should be able to: Work within precise standards of accuracy;
- Basic understanding of fire prevention and safety procedures
- Ability to stay alert and attentive for extended periods
- Physically, workers must be able to: See well (either naturally or with correction);
- Coordinate the movements eyes, hands and fingers; Use hands, arms, and fingers fully;
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding; Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at heights as required and lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds and occasionally more.
- Needs Firewatch and confined space training
- Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions
