  1. Job Purpose/Summary: (One or two sentences describing the overall objective of the job and why it exists)

The role of the Mechanical Construction Engineer is to work as part of multi discipline Engineers, Technicians and Vendors team in the preparation, planning, coordinating, supervising, and executing mechanical construction activities during the construction, installation, commissioning, and startup phases of facilities.

 

 

Job Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:

  • Supervise mechanical construction activities including:
    • Piping installation
    • Static equipment installation (vessels, tanks, heat exchangers)
    • Rotating equipment installation (pumps, compressors, turbines)
    • Structural and mechanical package installations etc,
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, method statements, and technical documents.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, quality, HSE, and commissioning teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Monitor construction progress and ensure adherence to project schedules and milestones.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards such as ASME, API, ASTM, and company(Bapco Upstream) specifications.
  • Manage contractors and subcontractors, ensuring work is performed safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct site inspections and verify workmanship quality.
  • Review and resolve technical queries, site issues, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
  • Support mechanical testing activities including hydrotesting, flushing, leak testing, and pre-commissioning activities.
  • Ensure proper implementation of HSE requirements and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Prepare progress reports, work packs, punch lists, and completion dossiers.
  • Participate in mechanical completion, commissioning, startup, and handover activities.
  • Participate in assigned Project Design, MOC, HAZOP, FAT & SAT’s and review engineering documents with providing input based on Construction experience for safety and operability and maintainability of facilities.
  • Participate in Field activities and walk downs to ensure system is Constructed as per approved design (when required).
  • Attending MEI / PSSR walk-downs and formally agreeing on categorizing punch-list items (when required).
  • Reviews technical bids submitted by consultants and equipment vendors.
  • And complete all additional activities requested by the lead and head of department.

 

 

 

  1. HSE Responsibilities:                                     
  • Knows company health, safety and environmental policies, procedures and regulations related to area of responsibility. Ensures effective implementation and safe working at all times to avoid risk to personnel and potential loss of production.
  • Participate in HAZOP reviews; identify associated recommendations to ensure system is safe for start up.
  • Review and Approve EPC/Construction RAMS document, Prepare RAMS document for In-House projects.
  • Initiation permit to work (PTW) as Initiating Authority (IA).
  • Take action to correct or stop any unsafe conditions or practices and reports incidents, injuries, near misses, and Safety observations.
  • Conduct all work activities in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • To wear the BU standard PPE always in the Bahrain Oil Field.
  • To report a minimum of 3 safety observations per year (the minimum no. is subject to change based on Company Goals).

  • Interacts with all the team members to work as a team to achieve company targets.
  • Around 70% of the time has to work from Site.

 

 

  1. Qualifications : (Education, Experience, Skills & Professional Certifications):         

 

 

Education:

  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.

 

Experience:

  • 5–15+ years of mechanical construction experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery, LNG, offshore, or EPC projects.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards and practices like API, NACE and their oil & gas influences.
  • Knowledge of construction management and commissioning practices
  • Professional certifications (PMP, NACE, API, NEBOSH, etc.) are often advantageous.

Skills:

  • Must possess the ability to handle multiple assignments with a focus on meeting deadlines and with delivery of a quality project.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to work well under pressure.
  • Team working skills.
  • Ability to write technical documents.
  • Prefer to have a Driving License.

 

Professional Certifications:
