Job Purpose

To assist the Resident Engineer in supervising mechanical works on-site, with a strong focus on tank fabrication, welding, installation, and testing, ensuring compliance with project specifications, applicable codes, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Resident Engineer in overseeing mechanical construction activities on-site.
• Supervise tank fabrication, welding, erection, and installation works.
• Ensure welding works comply with approved drawings, specifications, and relevant codes (ASME, API, AWS, etc.).
• Review and monitor Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Records (WQR).
• Coordinate inspections, testing, and commissioning activities related to tanks and associated mechanical systems.
• Monitor contractor progress, workmanship, and adherence to project schedules.
• Identify non-conformances and assist in implementing corrective actions.
• Prepare site reports, inspection records, and technical documentation.
• Liaise with contractors, inspectors, and the client’s project team.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in mechanical site supervision within engineering consultancy projects.
• Proven experience in tank welding (storage tanks, pressure tanks, or similar) and pumpstations.
• Strong knowledge of welding standards, inspection methods, and QA/QC procedures.
• Familiarity with international codes and standards (API 650, API 653, ASME, AWS preferred).
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications.
• Good communication and reporting skills.

Preferred Skills

• Welding inspection certification (CSWIP / AWS / equivalent) – an advantage.
• Experience working on oil & gas, water, or industrial projects.
• Strong coordination and problem-solving abilities.
