Energy Efficiency Expert

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and accomplished Energy Expert specializing in the oil and gas sector to spearhead strategic energy management and optimization initiatives across upstream, midstream, and downstream operations. This includes production facilities, refinery process systems, utility and infrastructure systems, energy and waste management facilities, transport and storage networks, power generation and cooling systems, as well as water treatment and desalination facilities.

This role demands a seasoned energy expert with process engineering skills  who can drive energy efficiency, sustainability, and innovation by leveraging advanced energy audit methodologies, process optimization techniques, and state-of-the-art technologies. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in identifying and implementing energy-saving opportunities, developing transformative decarbonisation strategies, and mentoring multidisciplinary teams, all while ensuring adherence to global energy standards and environmental regulations.

As a pivotal leadership position, this role will define energy strategies and expedite the transition to sustainable, efficient operations across diverse oil and gas facilities, contributing to the organization’s long-term goals of operational excellence, cost optimization, and environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

Spearhead strategic energy management and optimization initiatives across upstream, midstream, and downstream operations, encompassing production facilities, refinery systems, utility infrastructure, and waste management facilities.

  • Drive innovation in energy efficiency and sustainability by leveraging advanced energy audit methodologies, process optimization techniques, and state-of-the-art technologies.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement impactful energy-saving opportunities across diverse industrial systems, quantifying benefits in terms of cost, efficiency, and environmental impact.
  • Develop and execute transformative decarbonisation strategies and energy roadmaps aligned with organizational and regulatory sustainability goals.
  • Conduct in-depth energy assessments to benchmark performance, identify inefficiencies, and recommend optimization opportunities across power generation, cooling systems, and water treatment facilities.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to deliver energy efficiency projects on time and within budget while maintaining exceptional quality standards.
  • Mentor and guide multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence in energy management practices.
  • Ensure compliance with global energy standards, environmental regulations, and best practices, proactively addressing gaps and exceeding benchmarks.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to align energy strategies with business objectives and operational goals, ensuring measurable results.
  • Utilize advanced data analytics and simulation tools to optimize energy consumption, predict future energy needs, and refine operational strategies.
  • Stay at the forefront of emerging energy technologies and trends, integrating innovative solutions into operational processes to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
  • Lead energy efficiency workshops and training sessions.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations for senior management, detailing project outcomes, strategic recommendations, and performance metrics.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in energy management and sustainability, providing thought leadership and technical guidance to advance organizational goals.
  • Define and implement long-term energy strategies to transition towards sustainable, efficient operations, contributing to operational excellence, cost reduction, and environmental stewardship.

 

Qualifications

 Education:

  • Master’s degree in Energy Management, Sustainability or Process Engineering.
  • Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) or equivalent.
  • Specialized certifications in process safety (e.g., HAZOP Leader, SIL, or Functional Safety Engineer) are an advantage.
  • Certification in decarbonisation strategies, renewable energy systems, or ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems is desirable.

 

Experience:

 

  • 10-15 years of experience in energy management, energy efficiency projects, or process optimization within the oil and gas or petrochemical industry.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of leading strategic energy optimization initiatives across upstream, midstream, and downstream operations, including refinery process units, utilities, and infrastructure.
  • At least 5+ years of experience in developing and utilizing dynamic process simulation models for engineering studies.
  • Experience in conducting energy audits, developing heat integration strategies, and applying pinch analysis for energy recovery and efficiency improvements.
  • Deep understanding of energy management principles, heat and mass balance calculations, and equipment sizing techniques.
  • Expertise in process control systems, energy integration, and optimization techniques for high-energy-consuming systems.
  • Knowledge of decarbonisation strategies, carbon capture technologies, and energy transition frameworks in industrial operations.
  • Hands-on experience with energy and process safety tools, including HAZOP, SIL assessments, and risk management practices.
  • Demonstrated success in preparing high-quality technical reports, feasibility studies, and presentations tailored to stakeholders and executive leadership.

 

Skills:

  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills to identify inefficiencies and propose actionable solutions.
  • Strong programming skills in Python (NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib) and/or Excel VBA/Power BI for data analysis and workflow automation is highly preferable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement and technical reporting.
  • Strong leadership capabilities to mentor multidisciplinary teams and foster collaboration across departments.
  • Innovative and proactive mind set with a focus on delivering continuous improvement and measurable results.
  • Ability to manage complex, cross-functional projects while adhering to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
