Lead Electrical Design Engineer – Infrastructure Design Consultancy (Qatar)

Reporting To: Engineering Manager / Design Manager


Job Purpose

The Lead Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for leading the electrical engineering design and delivery of multidisciplinary infrastructure projects from concept through detailed design and construction support. The role requires strong technical expertise, project leadership, client coordination, and multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure safe, reliable, and sustainable electrical designs that comply with Qatar regulations, international standards, and client requirements.

The position involves leading electrical design for roads, highways, utilities, water and wastewater facilities, pumping stations, substations, district cooling plants, transportation projects, and public infrastructure developments.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Lead electrical engineering design for infrastructure projects from concept to detailed design and tender documentation.
  • Develop safe, innovative, and cost-effective electrical engineering solutions.
  • Review and approve design calculations, drawings, specifications, BOQs, and technical reports.
  • Ensure compliance with Qatar regulations, international standards, and client specifications.
  • Coordinate electrical interfaces with civil, structural, mechanical, ICT, utilities, and architectural disciplines.
  • Conduct technical design reviews and value engineering studies.

Electrical Infrastructure Design

Lead the design of:

  • MV & LV Power Distribution Systems
  • Electrical Substations
  • Transformer Installations
  • Switchgear Systems
  • Ring Main Units (RMUs)
  • Generator Systems
  • UPS Systems
  • Street Lighting Systems
  • Highway Lighting
  • Tunnel Lighting
  • Area Lighting
  • Smart Lighting Systems
  • Electrical Rooms
  • Cable Routing
  • Underground Cable Networks
  • Earthing & Bonding Systems
  • Lightning Protection Systems
  • SCADA Power Systems
  • Pumping Station Electrical Systems
  • Water & Wastewater Facilities
  • District Cooling Plants
  • Renewable Energy Integration (Solar PV preferred)
  • Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure

Project Management

  • Lead electrical engineering teams across multiple projects.
  • Plan engineering resources and project schedules.
  • Monitor project budgets and deliverables.
  • Ensure timely submission of engineering deliverables.
  • Participate in design coordination meetings.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation measures.

Client & Authority Coordination

  • Attend client meetings and technical workshops.
  • Present engineering solutions to clients and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with government authorities for approvals.
  • Support proposal preparation and technical bid evaluations.
  • Respond to client review comments and authority remarks.

Quality Assurance

Ensure compliance with:

  • Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS)
  • Kahramaa Electrical Regulations
  • Ashghal Design Manuals
  • Qatar Civil Defence Requirements
  • IEC Standards
  • IEEE Standards
  • NFPA Standards
  • BS/EN Standards
  • ISO Standards

Ensure all engineering deliverables comply with company QA/QC procedures before issue.


BIM & Digital Engineering

  • Lead BIM coordination for the electrical discipline.
  • Review Revit models and electrical layouts.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary clash detection.
  • Ensure compliance with BIM Execution Plans (BEP).

Team Leadership

  • Mentor electrical engineers, BIM engineers, and CAD designers.
  • Conduct technical reviews and coaching.
  • Support recruitment, competency development, and performance management.
  • Promote continuous improvement and engineering best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Mandatory)
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Preferred)
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng), PE, or equivalent professional registration is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 12–15 years of electrical design experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in a Lead Electrical Engineer role.
  • Extensive experience in infrastructure engineering consultancy.
  • Proven experience delivering major infrastructure projects in Qatar or the GCC.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
