The Dimensional Inspector is responsible for performing Dimensional Inspections in accordance with applicable codes, standards, customer specifications, and approved procedures. This role supports asset integrity, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance by producing accurate inspection results while maintaining strict adherence to safety and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform Dimensional Inspections in accordance with written procedures, applicable codes, and customer requirements
- Conduct Dimensional Inspections using appropriate dimensional inspection tools; such as calipers, gauges, micrometers, indicators, depth gauges, height gauges, lead gauges, etc.
- Set up, calibrate, and verify proper operation of inspection equipment prior to use
- Review drawings, prints, BOM’s prior to and post inspections.
- Interpret inspection results and evaluate indications in accordance with applicable acceptance criteria
- Ensure proper surface preparation, inspection conditions, and post‑inspection cleaning
- Accurately record inspection data results in accordance with company and customer requirements
- Prepare, review, and submit inspection reports in a timely manner
- Communicate inspection findings, nonconformances, and anomalies to supervisors, engineers, or clients as required
- Participate in job safety analyses (JSAs), toolbox talks, and pre‑job planning meetings
- Maintain inspection equipment, consumables, calibration blocks, and reference materials in a ready and compliant condition
- Support audits, customer reviews, and quality or regulatory inspections as requested
Authority Note:
The Dimensional Inspector exercises inspection authority within the limits of their certifications, written procedures, and applicable codes, including the authority to accept or reject indications in accordance with Level II responsibilities.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
Certifications
- Visual Testing Level 2 Certification is preferred but not required. Additional NDT method certifications are a plus
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience performing Dimensional inspections in an industrial environment (machine shop preferred)
- Demonstrated working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASME, AWS, API as applicable)
- Experience interpreting indications, evaluating acceptance criteria, and trending thickness data
- Familiarity with inspection documentation, reporting systems, and recordkeeping requirements
Additional Requirements
- Strong commitment to safety and quality
- Demonstrated computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and NDT reporting systems
- Ability to work independently or as part of a field inspection team
- Valid driver’s license
- Current OSHA Basic
- Ability to pass pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening and comply with ongoing random testing requirements
- Ability to work in industrial environments, including climbing, confined spaces, elevated structures, and varying weather conditions
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights or weekends, as required by job scope
