Major Maintenance Event Lead/Manager 

Location: Middlesbrough

Responsible for the management of the preparation and effective execution of Major Maintenance and Event activities – such as Maintenance Work Outages (MWO) and Logistic Outage Events. Providing a delivery service for this type of work that achieves the best cost/schedule in line with the Client’s requirements. Responsible for the design, assembly, delivery and dispersal of bespoke Event Teams to satisfy the Client’s operational requirements and budget.


Duties included within this role, but not limited to the following (Additional tasks may be given to the Major Maintenance & Events Lead at the discretion of the Contract Manager, if deemed appropriate):


  • Recruit, lead and disperse the Events Maintenance Team in line with Charter requirements
  • Conduct Event preparatory activities with a fixed core team in between Event ramp ups and dispersals
  • Initiate and agree a fully costed Charter with the Client prior to any maintenance event, iaw the SABIC Major Maintenance Events SOP, which is aligned to the manufacturing business strategy for Teesside.
  • Manage the safe, efficient and effective delivery of maintenance events in line with the approved Charter plan (Safety, Schedule, Cost and Quality).
  • Follow and drive compliance with the Maintenance Events SOP.
  • Ensure all estimates utilise the Clients agreed planning Norms where available
  • Manage the complete planning package, with a fully integrated schedule to enable an efficient execution
  • Drive contractor performance for maintenance delivery
  • Ensure all fixed and transient Event workers have the required trade competencies and complete all Client required training
  • Formulate, organise and maximise resource utilisation for when maintenance events are in close proximity
  • Develop and control deadlines, budgets and activities keeping the Client informed and giving early warnings when agreed targets look threatened
  • Apply change, risk and resource management
  • Prepare reports for stakeholders, including post event reports to extract and embed learning as part of a continuous improvement culture
  • Development and administration of the Contract agreements as required to deliver the task
  • Maintaining close contact with the Client and Contract Manager throughout the Event to ensure Client's satisfaction and contractual compliance
  • Manage the safe, effective and efficient delivery of the agreed event within the charter scope.
  • Conduct readiness assessments and management to reduce risk in the delivery of the task
  • Ensure Event close-out tasks are conducted and communicated to the Client and Account Director
  • Engage in internal audit programmes in support of the Contract
  • Ability to work on challenging timelines and have the agility to respond pragmatically to the Client when scope change encountered
  • Demonstrate a pro-active approach to the role through the identification of improvement opportunities


Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience of maintenance delivery within the Process, Oil & Gas, Plant or Power Generation industries
  • Experience of Turnarounds / major outage work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in a managerial/self-directed role.
  • Proactive and flexible work approach.
  • Worked within performance contracts before and familiar with their commercial arrangements.
  • IT use: Microsoft Office package, SAP, Scheduling platform (eg P6)



  • An engineering qualification at level 4 or above on the national framework
  • HSE qualification – minimum IOSH, preferably NEBOSH
  • IT Training – Microsoft Office



  • Bachelor degree or HND, preferably mechanical, process control or electrical engineering or equivalent combination of recognized engineering qualifications and experience
