Legal Council – Construction, Government Contracts & Regulatory Compliance

The Role

We need someone to join our U.S. legal team, to handle government contracts, regulatory compliance, and construction contracting. On the government side, that means FAR/DFAR compliance and SBA regulations. On the construction side, that means contracts with owners, subcontractors, and lower-tier contractors. This position will also be responsible for guiding our U.S. companies through the changing federal and state regulatory landscape in all areas relevant to our business.

This is a business-facing role. You’ll work directly with operations and help them get things done—compliantly and efficiently.

What You’ll Do

• Advise on FAR/DFARS compliance
• Handle SBA compliance and reporting
• Keep us current on all new and changing federal and state regulations
• Advise on bids, proposals, and certifications, including representations, certifications, and teaming agreements
• Support pre‑proposal risk assessments and deviation strategies
• Manage post‑award contract administration, including modifications, claims, disputes, and closeout
• Advise on FAR‑based procurement protests, responsibility determinations, and cure/show cause notices
• Draft and negotiate construction contracts (owner, sub, and lower-tier)
• Develop and implement FAR/DFARS flow‑down strategies for subcontractors across multiple contracting platforms
• Advise on small business subcontracting plans and related compliance requirements
• Support subcontract performance issues and early disputes, including managing outside counsel as necessary
• Support project teams on contract interpretation and risk
• Build and improve contracting processes

What We’re Looking For

• JD and bar admission (Virginia or other state)
• FAR/DFAR and SBA compliance experience
• Construction contracting experience
• 3-6 years of experience (law firm or in-house)
• Insurance and surety experience preferred
• Process-oriented and business-minded
• Someone who wants to grow and take on more over time and grow with the business.

The Team

You’ll join a small highly-collaborative legal team—4 attorneys (including the U.S. General Counsel) and 1 paralegal.
