The Black Hat Supervisor is a non-working supervisor who will lead a team of welders to safely and effectively carry out welding activities on site
Perform a wide range of duties to include but not be limited to the following:
- Ensure safe and responsible working and full compliance to Company and Site safety procedures.
- Ensure all work is carried out in a productive and cost effective manner.
- Ensure site/plant priorities are addressed in a timely manner and support company/site initiatives.
- Maintain the highest standards of health and safety, environmental performance and industrial relations.
- Ensure acceptable level of performance from Supervision under your control.
- Ensure good 360° communications with trade teams.
- Uphold the Companies purpose and BIS UK Golden Rules.
- Coaching and mentoring workforce, understanding.
- Man hour targets and having clear roles and accountabilities.
- Ensure supervision are aware of required safety standards.
- Ensure a process of measuring and reducing rework.
- Where scopes of work change ensure these changes are captured and processed.
- Ensure time/allocation bookings are correct.
- Maintain links between all sub-contractors.
- Forward thinking regarding resources to allow for execution of work packages.
- Ensure frequent and clear communications are maintained with sub-contractors and the client.
As a skilled welder, you will work from blueprints and written specifications. You will know the welding properties of various kinds of metal. You may use computers and robots to join metal pieces. With additional training, you could learn to program the computers. ▪ Study sketches, diagrams or parts to be repaired or fabricated and determine the operations to be performed and the materials required. ▪ Lay out, position, align and otherwise set pieces in place preparatory to welding and measure dimensions. ▪ Clean and degrease parts to be welded using wire brushes, grinders or solvents. ▪ Set up, adjust, calibrate and operate such welding equipment as arc welders, gas shielded arc welders and gas welders. ▪ Select proper electrodes, gas orifices, filter rods and/or torch tips depending on the materials being welded, desired bead size and penetration. ▪ Clean and maintain material and tools. ▪ Requisition materials and tools required and inspect them for suitability and conformity to specification.
Role Qualifications:
One of the following from:
• Level 3 Pipe Welder Apprenticeship Standard (ST0851)
• An equivalent Apprenticeship in a Welding discipline
• Diploma in: Welding Engineering Construction Pipework
• Welding Engineering Construction Plate
• Engineering Construction (Pipework or Plate) at SCQF Level 7
• CSWIP certificate L2 PCN Certificate
Supervisor Qualifications:
- Enrolment onto ILM Level 3 Certificate C&BE plus completion of Nuclear Unit or Nuclear Engineering Construction Supervisor (NECS)
- LATS or SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safety
