UNS Engineering C&S temporary embedded support
Outline
A “resource loan” temporarily embedded with UNS’ Engineering department to assist in the delivery of its portfolio. The individual shall be assigned to projects according to prevailing need.

Expected Duties for each role
- Reporting to the Engineering Manager, who is appointed as the Design Authority (DA), this role shall help ensure that both decommissioning projects and any new plant introduced to site meet their regulatory obligations. This shall be achieved via the means of the role holder being appointed a Design Authority Intelligent Customer (DAIC).
- The role holder shall support the delivery of projects by: -
- Provide support projects, including advising on the structure of Work Packages to facilitate efficient delivery.
- Specify requirements for Engineering deliverables.
- Specify requirements for Codes and Standards.
- Produce Scope of Work documents.
- Review the output of contractors and others against project requirements, providing comments and feedback where required.
- Undertake small-scale design works.
- Partake in [or lead where appropriate] project exercises such as HAZOP studies and optioneering.
- Support discharge of duties under CDM (particularly UNS as Principle Designer).
- Author substantiation documents for equipment to meet the Performance Requirements of a Safety Case
- Uphold UNS Engineering standards.
- Advise the UNS Engineering Manager or their delegate on the status of all projects to which that person is assigned.
- UNS’ procedures, systems and standards are to be utilized and adhered to.
Typical qualifications and experience
- Incorporated or Chartered Engineers.
- HND or degree in their engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Nuclear or Heavy Industry.
- Understanding of design principles in their field.
- Ability to manage contractors on behalf of UNS.
- NB. This is not from a commercial perspective, rather to ensure that the output presented to UNS’ Design Authority at a Design Review is of sufficient quality and meets the project’s needs (i.e. act as an Intelligent Customer)
Security Requirements
- Minimum of SC clearance.
Preparatory activities for attendance at site
- Drug and Alcohol screening assessment – to be performed by Urenco
- Security vetting and subsequent issue of pass.
- Submission of details so that IT access can be made available.
- Building induction when first arriving at site.
