Job description
You will:
• Report to the department mechanical & piping engineering manager and project engineering manager(s)
• Be responsible for mechanical and piping engineering and design within multi-discipline EPCM or EPC projects, ranging from concept to execution design
• Deliver projects working across a variety of industries, such as, Oil & Gas, Renewable Natural Gas, Utilities.
• Be responsible for the quality of engineered design solutions, ensuring the checking and approval of design deliverables is completed by competent persons
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers
• Ensure designs are compliant with UK regulations and the appropriate standards and specifications
• Be responsible for completing the mechanical and piping design within the defined scope and within project time / budget constraints
• Be responsible for communicating change to scope or design
• Provide mechanical discipline input into change events, early warnings notifications and estimates
• Lead and participate in internal and external design reviews
• Make independent decisions on issues, providing expert technical support within the mechanical and piping engineering team
Your profile
If you have the following profile, then we are looking forward to meeting you:
• Hold an engineering qualification in Mechanical Engineering to Degree level (BEng or MEng)
• Demonstrable experience as Lead / Principal Engineer, in multi-discipline engineering projects
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IMechE or equivalent institute (preferred)
• Have demonstrable experience working to engineering standards and specifications, and IGEM standards (preferred)
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of mechanical engineering and implementing these in engineering and design projects
• Understanding and appreciation of other engineering discipline responsibilities (Civil, Structural, EC&I and Process)
• Able to demonstrate good knowledge and experience with the production of, and/or having input into development of, mechanical specifications, basis of design, scope of works, calculations, drawings, 3D models, schedules, vendor technical bid analysis, design risk assessments, safety studies and compliance assessments
• Experience with the application of piping and vessel design codes to ASME and BS EN standards
• Experience providing technical oversight relating to delivery of mechanical equipment packages provided by external vendors
• Experience working to the requirements of the Construction Design Management regulations, Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and/or Pressure Equipment Safety Regulations (PE(S)R)
• You are only satisfied after your design is accepted by the client
• Excellent time management skills, planning and organising your team and own activities before you begin tasks
• You understand the dependencies of the engineering activities within single and multi-discipline scopes
• You have a ‘one time right’ mentality
• You have an appreciation of the application of common mechanical design software packages including for example, AutoCAD, Autodesk Plant3D, Navisworks, Caesar II
• You can develop and effectively present design packages, ensuring it meets the scope of the project
• You can prepare for and chair design review meetings
• Able to meet UK security clearance requirements (preffered)
