Process Engineer/Project Manager

Bilfinger Industrial Services is seeking a Process Engineer/Project Manager to join our team in St. Louis (Ballwin), MO. 


The ideal candidate shall:

  • Be a highly skilled chemical or mechanical Professional Engineer with significant process experience.
  • Be capable of leading a remote engineering team and collaborating with other discipline leads.
  • Be capable of defining, organizing, executing, and coordinating engineering projects for clients, primarily in the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, consumer product goods, food and beverage, and manufacturing industries.
  • Have excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem solving skills.
  • Be well versed in mechanical industry codes (ASME, ANSI, API, ASHRAE, ICC, NFPA, etc.)


This position will report directly to the Engineering Manager and be responsible for the management of engineering projects and supervision of remote engineering teams.  You will have the opportunity to perform, practice, and apply a wide range of mechanical/process engineering skills to our client’s projects.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Expected to be able to work in a dual function as a project manager and a lead engineer
  • Plan and organize project work for remote, multidisciplinary teams, located in the US and Europe.
  • Supervise project designs by both local and remote engineering teams.
  • Review, sign, and seal deliverables.
  • Understand execution and sequence of engineering deliverables in order to develop project execution, quality, and safety plans
  • Responsible for assuring that project scopes, schedules, and budgets are met.
  • Perform engineering design for client projects including piping systems, pump hydraulics, tank and vessels, heat transfer equipment, controls equipment, process equipment, etc...
  • Develop project deliverables for clients including PFDs, P&IDs, Heat and Mass Balances, Basis of Design, Schedules, Project Estimates, Bid Documents, Equipment Specifications, etc.
  • Research, design, and specify equipment, controls, and processes for chemical, mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, and other industrial systems.
  • Attend job walks and kickoff meetings.
  • Provide on-site construction management assistance during installation, commissioning and start-up of equipment and related systems.
  • Conduct project lessons learned reviews.
  • Provide inputs to quality and training plans.
  • Assist in proposal generation and business development.
  • Produce man-hour estimates.
  • Innovate and improve current work processes.


  • Consulting or plant engineering experience in chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, consumer product goods, food and beverage, or other industrial facilities or industries.
  • Proven ability to apply engineering techniques commonly used in industrial capital projects, such as piping engineering, pipe stress analysis, pump hydraulic calculations, sizing and specification of pumps, heat transfer calculations, safety relief system sizing, and sizing and specifications for process equipment.
  • Experience working with construction, procurement, and safety team members throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  • Experience with Process Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment Reviews.
  • Experience with project management and team management. (Remote team management a Plus).



  • BS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (or other related field) from an accredited university.
  • PE license required (with ability to obtain licenses in other states).
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical, oil & gas, or similar sectors.
  • 5+ years of engineering management experience is preferred.
  • PMP Certification is desired but not required.

Desired Skills:

  • Caesar II, AFT Arrow/Fathom,
  • Knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Use of 3D models and point clouds
