The Role

The Mechanical Planner is responsible for performing detailed planning and scheduling of maintenance construction work, preparing bid packages for subcontract work, and ensuring work is executed in line with safety, cost, schedule, and quality targets, as well as corporate and client expectations.

 

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years’ experience in the industrial or commercial construction industry, industrial preferred

  • 3+ years’ mechanical planning experience highly desired

  • Extensive knowledge of construction and engineering means and methods

  • Must demonstrate a strong ability to:

    • Adapt and be flexible to frequent changes in a fast-paced work environment

    • Demonstrate integrity consistent with Bilfinger’s core values

    • Collaborate and work effectively in a team environment with people of various backgrounds and styles

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, to include clear, concise, and professional presentation of information

    • Adapt to the constantly evolving world of technology, design, means and methods, systems may include but not limited to: Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft Project, other construction systems

    • Mentor and train assistant level operations team members

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field highly desired

 

Responsibilities:

  • Project Planning: Conduct field walkdowns to identify and analyze corrective and preventive maintenance, modification, and surveillance activities and to provide input for refining and improving work package quality; Provide detailed maintenance planning for various projects within the client facility; Review work requests and plan work orders in computerized system; Participate in Constructability/Design Reviews to help with scope development, funding estimates and validation workbooks; Knowledge and ability to evaluate all work orders to be planned, understanding the need to get the correct resources, equipment, work instructions, and parts identified prior to scheduling work to maximize productivity; Review completed work order packets to identify follow up work and improvement items to be included in model work orders, controlled documents, drawings, and equipment parts list, to facilitate continuous improvement in the work management process, work planning through work execution.

  • Estimating: Develop labor and material estimates, material takeoffs and enter requisitions; Performs independent review of detailed estimates prepared by others; Prepares estimates based on technical specifications, scope of work and drawings or sketches; to include detailed quantity take-offs for each job as required; Confirms that all necessary line items are included in the estimate and any unnecessary items are excluded; Develops pricing for non-scheduled line items.

  • Scheduling: Scheduling of crews and tracking of progress; Establishes and maintains project start, progress, and completion schedules ensuring adherence to timelines and milestones.

  • Safety: Ensures compliance with Bilfinger Industrial Services’ Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) guidelines and procedures along with all local requirements (OSHA, etc.).

  • Occasional travel may be required.

  • Performance of the job duties will be in an on-project site-office environment along with daily project walks that are under construction which may include various weather conditions.

  • The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

    • The ability to walk terrain and surfaces that may be far, uneven, or temporary

    • The ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, talk and hear

    • The ability to frequently use hands to finger, handle or feel

    • The ability to occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, squat, or reach

    • The ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

    • Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds

    • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis

    • Position may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, reaching overhead, squatting, sitting or standing and lifting

    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
