Software Project Manager
Location: Reading or Chesterfield

A Software Project Manager is required to motivate and supervise the software engineering team, taking full responsibility for successful technical delivery of a complete software solution to the agreed scope in accordance with company procedures whilst meeting budgetary and time-scale targets.
Must be pro-active and able to allocate tasks among team members and supervise, assist and monitor task progress and advise the project manager on progress, risks and issues.
The Software Project Manager should work co-operatively with the Project Manager and software engineering team to ensure smooth project progress in accordance with the agreed lifecycle.
The right candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership of the software team and will need to understand the technical scope and requirements of the project as well as managing, motivating and implementing improvements to drive efficiency and schedule adherence.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Overall software technical engineering team leadership
- Working closely with and supporting the Project Manager in all aspects of software technical delivery and scope management
- Full responsibility for project software schedule adherence, reporting any delays or differences to project planners
- Working closely with planning team to ensure proposed schedule feasibility and efficiency of delivery
- Own, allocate and manage workload for the software engineering team
- High focus on software schedule adherence, mitigation of delays and reporting
- Working knowledge of NEC Contracts. Raising TQs, GCs, EWNs and other relevant contractual notices
- Ensure adherence to company processes and procedures
- Detailed task and procurement list development and leadership
- Hold frequent progress reporting sessions to the project planner maintaining an accurate live schedule status
- Identification of opportunities for value engineering
- Support the Project Manager in identifying and managing risks and issues
- Support the Project Manager in the project delivery strategy development and planning
- Identification and enabling of reusable modules by standardisation and modularization of systems where appropriate
- Training planning and support
- Mentoring of Engineers
- Provide Health and Safety leadership by example
FUNCTIONS:
- Central involvement in projects hand-over process
- Central involvement in 1st Engineering review
- Ensure compliance with project processes and procedures
- Assist PM in development of project Gantt chart
- Liaise with project hardware & commissioning teams
- Ongoing development & updating of detailed task & procurement lists
- Peer review documents created by the project team or other teams
- Attend contract meetings with the project manager
- Be the main software technical interface for the Project Manager
- Manage site surveys as required
- Lead outline design, upfront design studies and requirement definition for clients
- Develop FDS & DDS
- Develop Test Specification & design testing methodology with the team
- Develop or manage development of project modules. (Modules as identified in the design – PLC code modules, SCADA scripts, Mimics, comms drivers, etc.)
- Undertake & record ongoing Engineering Reviews throughout the project
- Develop site work documentation with team input as necessary (Risk assessment, method statement, site test documentation)
- Develop O & M documentation – with input from project team as necessary
- Lead or manage full integrated system testing, CFAT, SAT and installation
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Degree or HND/HNC in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Control Systems or relevant discipline
- Chartered Engineer or working towards professional registration
- Bespoke code development
- A minimum 5 years’ experience of leading development of integrated control system solutions
- Detailed experience of the full project life cycle from system specification through design, development, testing and on-site commissioning is essential
- Hands on experience of PLC and SCADA systems
- A good appreciation of Control panels, electrical installation and Instrumentation solutions
- Siemens WinCC / TIA Portal
- Experience of some or all of the following is desirable:
- Working knowledge of NEC contracts, including change process, EWN, TQ’s, CE’s Etc
- Working knowledge of CEMAR System
- DCS

- MES
- Industry 4.0
- IOT and Edge Computing (NodeRed, MQTT etc)
