Project Management

  • Manage a portfolio of design projects for Bilfinger UK (BUK) clients or manage the engineering scope within an EPC / EPCM project reporting to a BUK Project Manager
  • Develop Project Engineering Management Plans
  • Responsible for successful delivery of engineering and design projects to meet clients technical standards, on time and on budget
  • Ensure engineering activities are carried out in line with contract scope. Identify and manage scope change
  • Prepare and maintain project control documentation including project schedules (in MS Excel or MS Project), budgets, cost and earned value monitoring and reporting, risk and change management
  • Prepare and present regular progress reports for engineering and design
  • Manage relationships and maintain communication with clients and internal stakeholders
  • Represent engineering project team in communication with clients and internal stakeholders
  • Generate or coordinate the development of design cost estimates, deliverables lists, execution plans and programmes. This could be as part of project change management or engineering sales
  • Prepare monthly project financial reports and review results with the Engineering Management Team


Design Co-ordination & Project Team Management

  • Coordinate engineering discipline functions and encourage communications across disciplines
  • Provide clear direction with regard to objectives and priorities
  • Ensure inter-discipline and wider design reviews are coordinated and completed
  • Ensure constructability of design by ensuring relevant reviews are held with the stakeholders
  • Ensure that engineering and designs are completed in full compliance with legislative, BUK and client regulations and standards
  • Ensure all engineering deliverables undergo the appropriate QA/QC in line with BUK procedures
  • Manage technical queries and requests for information with clients
  • Ensure that queries from the construction team and others are handled efficiently and in a timely manner
  • Coordinate the provision of design and engineering support during fabrication and construction activities
  • Coordinate and collate as-built information and complete all necessary information for the final handover databooks



  • With support from discipline equipment engineers:
  • Support procurement activities in projects, take the lead on procurement of technical equipment and supporting installation subcontract activities (approved data sheets, organising and attending FATs etc.)
  • Manage the technical queries and requests for information with the original equipment manufacturers
  • Liaise closely with project logistics and construction management to ensure equipment deliveries are coordinated



  • Ensure safe and responsible working and full compliance with BUK and Client Safety procedures
  • Coordinate and manage formal process safety assessments (HAZID, HAZOP, SWDS etc.)
  • Attend and contribute to constructability and hazard identification (HAZCON) reviews
  • Ensure compliance with the latest CDM regulations, champion “hazards removed by design” and, where appropriate, act as the Principal Designer.
  • Ensure Safety, Health & Environmental protection are inherent in the engineering designs produced



  • Lead by example and drive the right attitude and behaviour within project teams
  • Think and act strategically to achieve desired outcome

Experience and Qualifications

  • Extensive experience managing engineering design of multiple projects in an Engineering / EPCM / EPC company
  • Sound multidiscipline engineering knowledge
  • Experience delivering brownfield engineering projects in line with stage-gated engineering project management process
  • Experience in a lead role in the Chemicals, Food, Energy and Nuclear industries
  • Good knowledge of relevant regulations, e.g. ATEX/DSEAR, CDM, PED/PER etc. along with experience acting as CDM Principal Designer would be preferred
  • HND / BSc / BEng / MSc in relevant Engineering discipline (Preferred)
  • Formal Project Management training from Association of Project Managers (APM) or similar (preferred)
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (Preferred)
  • Strong evidence of desired capabilities / qualities may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications
