Position Statement:

Direct the day-to-day operation of their designated operating unit.  Ensure each project team is a cohesive unit that executes the project in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures, business principles, code of ethics, and the client’s requirements.  Responsible for oversight in the following areas: safety, quality, cost, schedule, personnel development, retention, recruiting, compliance, and client interface.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safety is an absolute responsibility of managers at each level of authority for all that happens or fails to happen in response to the program within their respective areas. Each manager is expected to implement an incident prevention program as outlined in the Safety and Loss Control Manual.
  • Communicate/coordinate with corporate/regional safety manager per the incident reporting procedures.
  • Ensure that the project team implements and executes the project in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures. This includes but is not limited to:Code of Ethics, Safety and Loss Control, Quality, Human Resources, Finance, and Information Technology.
  • Support the company president in creating a vision for the company.Develop company goals/plans which support the company mission.Monitor and track the progress against the plans.
  • Plan, staff, and supervise all assigned work unit activities through subordinate managers to ensure a cohesive operational unit.
  • Support subordinate managers with the staffing requirements (permanent and temporary assignments) to meet client project needs.Maintain succession plans for each site and upper level management position.
  • Support college/vocational technical school job fairs and programs which helps promote intern programs and recruitment of newly graduated students.
  • Complete annual performance appraisal for direct reports and reviews all subordinate performance appraisals then submits to the HR Department for recordkeeping.
  • Provide advice, guidance and direction to subordinate managers toward their professional development.
  • Review and approve all site Personnel Action Forms, Authorizations for Hire and direct report expense reports.
  • Facilitate periodic site manager conference calls to share information, learning’s, networking and initiatives. Develop the project Construction and Financial Objectives.
  • Develop the project “Delegation of Authority” and review with each Project Manager in their operating unit.
  • Review project construction means and methods and approve changes resulting in improved productivity and schedule
  • Review monthly cost reports to identify potential or existing problems and create recovery plans when warranted.
  • Ensure the financial status of each project’s accounts receivables and payables are being processed within the terms of the contract.
  • Review and approve subcontractors including scope of work within guidelines of “Delegation of Authority”.
  • Participate in and review estimates prior to bid.
  • Work closely with company legal resources regarding all legal matters within their operating unit (union collective bargaining negotiations and issues, bonds, liens, insurance, claims, etc.)
  • Negotiate, review, and/or input to new labor agreements and renewals.
  • Review correspondence related to claims and disputes prior to submission.
  • Review and approve material suppliers for projects of responsibility within the guidelines of the “Delegation of Authority.”
  • Provide periodic reports, project progress, and problems/solutions to CEO and CFO
  • Meet with client representatives to provide project progress reports, obtain feedback, and maintain positive client relations.
  • Review and input to and/or negotiate changes to owner contracts.
  • Seek to identify and negotiate additional projects with the client or with new clients.
  • Develop, prepare, and submit proposals for new projects within area of responsibility.
  • Perform a site visit for each project site within their operational unit quarterly.
  • Schedule and lead project kick-off meeting coordinating the project as bid.Coordinate project start up with departments such as Human Resources, Safety, Risk Management, IT, and Accounting as appropriate.
  • Sponsor the formation of specialty teams such as safety, innovation, and sustainability within their operating unit that promotes social, economical, and environmentally responsible work practices.
  • When required, complete a state contractor license application and take all necessary exams to become the state license holder.
  • Represent the company at designated client, supplier, or trade conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned by the company or the President and Chief Executive Officer to meet business needs.

Minimum Qualification

  • 4 year technical or business degree or 10 years equivalent construction management experience.
  • OSHA 30
  • Advanced knowledge of the construction industry and company operations required.
